Nigerian celebrity chef Hilda Baci has announced that she is now a three-time Guinness World Record holder, following confirmation that her September 2025 culinary feat earned her an additional global title.
Baci revealed on Tuesday via Instagram that her record-breaking attempt for the largest serving of Nigerian-style jollof rice had also secured her the Guinness World Record for the largest serving of rice overall. She updated her Instagram bio to read “Chef X3 Guinness World Record Holder” to mark the milestone.
“Woke up a three-time Guinness World Records holder and I’m still trying to wrap my head around it. What a way to step into 2026,” she wrote.
The confirmation came through an email from Andrew Fanning, Head of Client Partnering at Guinness World Records’ Records Creative Team, who explained that a review of record guidelines showed that her previous achievement qualified for two separate titles.
“Congratulations, you are officially amazing (again)! It has come to our attention that when you and your team attempted and achieved the ‘Largest serving of Nigerian-style jollof rice,’ you also achieved the record title of ‘Largest serving of rice,’” Fanning stated.
Reacting to the news, Baci said she was both shocked and thrilled by the unexpected recognition. She explained that she discovered the update while casually checking her emails, months after the original record announcement.
“I was shocked and happy at the same time, completely caught off guard. Five months after the initial record announcement, I was just finding out that there was more,” she said.
According to the chef, what she initially believed was a single Guinness World Record turned out to be two achieved on the same day. She noted that she and her partner, @ginonaija, were unaware at the time that their jollof rice record also qualified as the largest serving of rice overall.
“So what I thought was one record turned out to be two. And now, officially, that makes three Guinness World Records in total,” she added.
The achievement traces back to September 2025, when Baci prepared an astonishing 8,780 kilograms (19,356 pounds) of jollof rice during a cookout in Lagos, setting the world record for the largest pot of the iconic dish ever made.
This accomplishment marked her second Guinness World Record, more than two years after she first made history in May 2023 by completing a 93-hour, 11-minute cooking marathon, which made her the first Nigerian chef to hold multiple Guinness World Records.
Baci credited her success to teamwork, giving special recognition to @oreoluwa_atinmo for her vital role throughout the process.
“This journey, this vision, and this record would not have been possible without her. From idea to execution, we did this together,” she said.
She also expressed gratitude to God, describing the achievement as a reminder that greater rewards can come even when one believes the journey is complete.
“God is faithful in ways that still surprise you. This feels like a beautiful reminder that even when you think you’ve seen the full picture, there can still be more,” she said.
Baci concluded by thanking Guinness World Records, her team and supporters worldwide for their unwavering support, noting that the achievement belongs to everyone who contributed to the journey.
