Nigeria’s Super Eagles have climbed 12 places to 26th in the latest FIFA World Rankings, according to the updated list released on Monday, January 19, 2026.

The rise from 38th to 26th comes on the back of Nigeria’s strong performance at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco, where the Eagles secured a third-place finish and took home the bronze medal.

During the tournament, Nigeria won six of their seven matches, with their only defeat coming against host nation Morocco in a closely contested semifinal decided by penalties.

With this ranking, the Super Eagles are now Africa’s third-best team, trailing only AFCON finalists Senegal, who are 12th in the world, and Morocco, ranked eighth globally.

Algeria and Egypt, both eliminated by Nigeria during the tournament, occupy fourth and fifth places on the African ranking.

At the global level, the world’s top 10 teams remain Spain, Argentina, France, England, Brazil, Portugal, Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, and Croatia.
