Manchester United have reportedly parted ways with head coach Rúben Amorim following a breakdown in his relationship with the club’s hierarchy.
According to reports from the Daily Mirror, the decision was taken a day after United’s 1–1 draw with Leeds United. In his post-match press conference, Amorim appeared visibly frustrated, stressing that he had been appointed as the club’s manager—not merely a coach.
Those remarks are said to have angered members of the board, ultimately leading to his dismissal after 14 months in charge. Former United midfielder Darren Fletcher is expected to take charge of the team on an interim basis ahead of their next Premier League fixture.
Amorim was appointed in November 2024 as the replacement for Erik ten Hag but struggled to turn the club’s fortunes around. Manchester United finished 15th in the Premier League last season and also suffered defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final.
The draw at Elland Road is believed to have been Amorim’s final match in charge.
In his final media appearance, Amorim suggested that his role was intended to extend beyond matchday duties, encompassing wider football operations and long-term planning. He also hinted that significant structural changes were needed at the club for meaningful progress to be achieved.
Manchester United currently sit sixth in the Premier League table. The club has yet to release an official statement confirming Amorim’s departure.
