The Federal Government of Nigeria has confirmed its cooperation with the United States in carrying out airstrikes on ISIS terrorist camps in the country’s Northwest region.
In a statement released Friday morning by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the government said the operations were the result of ongoing intelligence sharing and strategic coordination with international partners.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Nigeria confirms that Nigerian authorities remain engaged in structured security cooperation with international partners, including the United States, to address the persistent threat of terrorism and violent extremism. This cooperation has led to precision airstrikes on terrorist targets in Northwest Nigeria,” the statement read.
The government emphasized that the partnership follows established international protocols and respects Nigeria’s sovereignty. It includes intelligence exchange, strategic coordination, and other forms of support aimed at regional and global security.
The statement also highlighted that Nigeria’s counterterrorism efforts prioritize the protection of civilians, the preservation of national unity, and the rights and dignity of all citizens, regardless of religion or ethnicity.
“Terrorism in any form is an affront to Nigeria’s values and undermines international peace and security,” the ministry said.
It added that the Federal Government continues to work with international partners to weaken terrorist networks, disrupt their financing and logistics, prevent cross-border threats, and strengthen Nigeria’s security institutions and intelligence capabilities.
The ministry assured the public that it will maintain regular communication with relevant partners and provide updates through official channels.
