The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has reported that seven men sustained varying degrees of burns in a fire at the 22-storey Great Nigeria Insurance House on Wednesday.
Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, Dr. Oke-Osanyitolu, stated in a Thursday release that three men and two women who suffered smoke inhalation were treated with first aid at the scene and discharged after stabilization.
Dr. Oke-Osanyitolu said the fire, which had spread to a nearby mosque and parts of Oluwole Plaza, has now been contained thanks to the coordinated efforts of emergency responders. Adjoining buildings in the area were largely saved, and response teams are working to fully extinguish the fire.
He added that the intensity of heat and smoke has significantly reduced due to sustained firefighting operations. The seven-storey Radio Nigeria building opposite the scene was also safely extinguished, with dampening-down efforts ongoing.
A section of Oluwole Plaza affected by the blaze has been brought under control, with most goods and stalls salvaged. Recovery operations are ongoing, and further updates will be provided as the situation develops.
