Dozens of armed bandits stormed Yankamaye village in Tsanyawa Local Government Area of Kano State on Saturday, November 29, 2025, killing an elderly woman and abducting three people.
The attack reportedly took place around 11 p.m., when most residents had already gone to bed.
According to village sources who spoke to Daily Nigerian, the attackers parked their motorcycles on the outskirts of the community and proceeded on foot in an attempt to avoid detection.
The armed group allegedly shot and killed an elderly woman who pleaded with them not to take her son.
“They killed an old woman because she begged them not to go with her son. They shot her and still went away with him,” a resident who asked not to be named said.
The bandits then broke into another home, abducting two women, one of whom is said to be the sister-in-law of the local ward councillor.
One Nuradeen Rabiu identified the abducted man whose mother was killed as Aminu Mahd Ala. Rabiu noted that Aminu had earlier made a social media post condemning those politicising the security situation in Kano, only hours before the attack on his home.
“This was his post, and a few hours later, kidnappers came to his house, took him away, and killed his mother,” Nuradeen wrote.
Yankamaye, located about 5km from Rimaye town in Katsina State, has suffered repeated attacks, especially after neighbouring Katsina communities reportedly entered a “peace accord” with bandit groups.
Nearby settlements such as Sundu and Buresawa are also experiencing similar security breaches. Just on Monday, at least eight people were abducted during a late-night raid in Buresawa village.
