The police have recovered a stolen Toyota Hilux belonging to the Kano State Deputy Governor, Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo, and arrested a suspect in connection with the theft.
The Chief Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor confirmed the incident in a statement on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, stating that the thieves gained access to the Government House through Gate 4 and made away with the vehicle.
The spokesperson for the Kano State Police Command, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, also confirmed the recovery and arrest in a separate statement. He identified the suspect as Ya’u Inuwa, a permanent driver at the Government House, who allegedly conspired with two others to steal the vehicle.
“The Kano State Police Command has recovered a stolen white Toyota Hilux vehicle attached to the Governor’s Advance Team, which was reported missing from the Kano State Government House on November 11, 2025,” the statement read.
“The State Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, PhD, sfipma, mnim, mnips, masis, ordered the sealing of all entry and exit points across the state and directed that the vehicle be recovered and the perpetrators arrested.
“Following sustained follow-up and intelligence-led investigations, one Ya’u Inuwa, a 50-year-old driver in the Government House, was arrested in connection with the theft. The vehicle was recovered at Unguwa Uku, Yan Awaki Quarters, Kano, and is currently in police custody.
“The suspect confessed to conspiring with two other individuals who are still at large.
“The Police Command appreciates the prompt report by officials of the Kano State Government House and assures the public of its commitment to ensuring that the perpetrators are brought to justice. Further developments will be communicated as investigations continue.”
