A comment about Toke Makinwa’s pregnancy and child sparked heated exchanges on X (formerly Twitter) today.
It began when a user joined a general relationship discussion and referenced Toke, claiming she once advised women to be independent but now “nobody even know who give her belle.”
The post read:
“Nigerian girls should be wise. Toke Makinwa said that a few years ago, now we don’t even know who gave her belle.”
Toke quickly fired back, replying:
“You are M*D.”
The exchange escalated as Toke explained that while she can tolerate personal attacks, she draws the line when her child is mentioned.
“Listen, I can take any rubbish you throw my way, but once you talk about my child, all bets are off. Leave me TF alone,” she tweeted.
She also addressed the wider issue of how women’s choices are often judged:
“To be a woman in Nigeria is exhausting. Once a woman’s choice doesn’t sit well with some men’s ego, they act like she failed. Some of you need to heal from your upbringing.”
Toke ended her responses by stressing that she won’t try to be “the bigger person” in such situations.
