Troops of the Joint Task Force, Operation MESA, under the 3 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, have successfully repelled a bandit attack on several communities in Shanono Local Government Area of Kano State, killing 19 armed bandits in the process.

According to reports, the operation took place around 5:00 p.m. on November 1, 2025, after troops received credible intelligence about the movement of bandits around Ungwan Tudu, Ungwan Tsamiya, and Goron Dutse.

In a statement issued by Captain Babatunde Zubairu, Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the 3 Brigade, troops swiftly mobilized and engaged the attackers in a fierce gun battle.

“During the encounter, 19 bandits were neutralized while several motorcycles and two mobile phones were recovered from the criminals,” the statement read.

Unfortunately, the Army confirmed that two soldiers and one local vigilante lost their lives during the operation.

Captain Zubairu added that further operations were ongoing in the area to secure vulnerable communities that have frequently been targeted by bandits and cattle rustlers.

“The Nigerian Army urges residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious movements to security agencies. The Commander, 3 Brigade Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Ahmed Tukur, assures law-abiding citizens of the Army’s commitment to maintaining peace and security in Kano State, in collaboration with sister services and other security agencies,” the statement continued.

The military described the operation as part of its ongoing efforts to secure rural communities and restore public confidence in areas affected by bandit activities.
