The Delta State Police Command has impounded twenty-five vehicles in Asaba for non-compliance with the tinted glass permit directive.
This comes despite a ruling by the Federal High Court in Warri, Delta State, on Friday, October 3, ordering the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) to suspend enforcement of the permit.
The court directed the police to maintain the status quo and “respect judicial processes pending further proceedings in the matter.”
In April, the NPF had resumed issuance of tinted glass permits nationwide through the Police Specialised Services Automation Project (POSSAP), after suspending the scheme in 2022. The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, initially gave motorists until August 12 to obtain the permits before extending the deadline to October 2.
Police authorities have defended the initiative, citing the Motor Vehicles (Prohibition of Tinted Glass) Act of 1991 and national security concerns.
Confirming the latest enforcement, the Delta Police Command posted on its official X handle (@DeltaPoliceNG):
“Enforcement of tint permits. Twenty-five vehicles were impounded for driving a tinted vehicle without a tinted permit in Asaba. Visit @POSSAP_NGG website today and get it done or your police state headquarters.”
