A 40-year-old farmer, Ishaku Abalis, has been beheaded by unidentified assailants in Panyam District, Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The National President of the Mwaghavul Development Association (MDA), Bulus Dabit, confirmed the incident to journalists on Tuesday, September 30, in Jos, the state capital.
According to Dabit, the killing occurred amid a wave of persistent attacks and kidnappings in Panyam and Pushit Districts of the council.
He called for the creation of state police, stressing that local policing was critical to complementing federal security efforts in the state.
“Abalis’ head was cut off and taken away by the killers. The local security outfits are aware. The Sector Commander in Mangu LGA mobilised his men to the site and is aware of the continued attacks on our people. The DPO in Mangu is also aware,” he said.
The MDA president also urged for stronger security presence to reduce the vulnerability of communities in the area, calling for a strategic and sustained deployment of personnel.
According to him, visible security patrols could help deter further attacks, restore residents’ confidence, and protect innocent lives from what he described as “enemies of progress who do not mean well for the state.”
He further appealed to security agencies to intensify efforts to track down and apprehend those behind the killings.
