At least eight people lost their lives after the collapse of an illegal mining site in Jabaka, Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The incident occurred around 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 25, 2025.
According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, the report came from the Commander of the Anti-Illegal Mining Unit, who confirmed that several miners were trapped when the pit gave way.
The unit, led by its Commander, visited the site and recovered eight bodies, while many others were rescued with injuries.
“Rescue operations are still ongoing to recover the remaining victims, dead or alive,” a source said.
The deceased and the injured have been evacuated to General Hospital, Maru, for autopsy and medical treatment.
