Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has resumed duties at her office in the National Assembly after it was unsealed following a six-month suspension.
The senator representing Kogi Central returned to her office on Monday, flanked by supporters who cheered as she gained access to the premises.
Speaking from her office, Akpoti-Uduaghan recounted the challenges she faced during her suspension, including what she described as an attempted recall. She expressed gratitude to her supporters, naming several individuals, and said their solidarity compelled the Senate leadership to reopen her office.
She, however, strongly criticised Senate President Godswill Akpabio, accusing him of treating her unfairly. According to her, Akpabio handled her “like a servant” and a “domestic staff.”
“It is good to put institutions to the test; no one is more Nigerian than us. Senator Akpabio is not more of a senator than I am, yet he treated me like a servant. We cannot cower in the face of injustice,” she said.
Akpoti-Uduaghan insisted that despite what she termed an “illegal suspension,” she continued to carry out her legislative duties to ensure her constituents in Kogi Central did not suffer neglect.
