The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested members of an armed robbery gang involved in multiple murders and robberies in Abuja and Niger State.
Security analyst Zagazola Makama said the gang is linked to the murders of retired Brigadier-General Uwen Harod Udokwe and popular DJ Bashiru Dauda in Abuja.
Following orders from the FCT Commissioner of Police, tactical teams carried out operations from September 3 to 19. The Scorpion Squad, led by ACP Victor Godfrey, arrested four suspects during raids in Kagini and Madalla.
The suspects are Ibrahim Shaibu (aka Baba Godes), Yusuf Salihu, Awulu Nuhu (aka Zabi), and Usman Yerima (aka Dangrugru).
Police recovered two pistols, 49 rounds of live ammunition, a grey 2012 Toyota Corolla reportedly stolen in Benin City, and ten Android phones.
Investigations showed the gang attacked Umar Y. Gowa, a security officer for Kano State’s governor, on July 12, 2024, stealing his service pistol and vehicle. The pistol was recovered and returned to the Department of State Services (DSS).
The gang is also responsible for the June 16, 2024 attack at Volcano Peak Hotel, where DJ Bashiru Dauda was killed.
On July 20, 2024, the suspects clashed with security forces at Arab Junction, Utako. Two gang members were killed, while others escaped.
The suspects named accomplice Sani Ginwa, wanted for the June 22, 2024 murder of Brig.-Gen. Udokwe at his home in Apo.
Police are continuing investigations to arrest other members and recover more weapons.
