The Nigerian Army has confirmed the arrest of Ifeanyi Eze Okorienta, a commander of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN). He is widely known by the alias Gentle De Yahoo.
The arrest was carried out by troops of the 34 Artillery Brigade in collaboration with other security agencies. The operation took place at his hideout in Aku-Ihube, located in Okigwe Local Government Area of Imo State.
During the raid, troops recovered an English pistol, several rounds of both 7.62mm special and NATO ammunition, a cartridge, six mobile phones, as well as military and police uniforms. A German flag was also found at the scene. In addition, soldiers uncovered a workshop reportedly used for dismantling stolen vehicles, and ten motorcycles found at the location were destroyed.
The Army also conducted operations in other parts of the country. In Adamawa, Katsina, and Kogi States, a total of eleven kidnap victims were rescued. Five people were freed in Adamawa’s Madagali Local Government Area, another five in Katsina’s Malumfashi Local Government Area, and two in Lokoja, the capital of Kogi State.
In Katsina, troops also neutralized two terrorists and recovered an AK-47 rifle, ammunition, and a motorcycle. In Benue State, a violent extremist was killed, and soldiers seized charms and a mobile phone. Eleven suspects involved in armed robbery, gunrunning, and violent extremism were arrested across Benue, Kogi, and Kaduna States.
In Plateau State, troops recovered forty stolen cattle and returned them to their rightful owners.
The Nigerian Army attributed these achievements to ongoing joint efforts with other security agencies and reaffirmed its commitment to weakening criminal networks and improving security nationwide.
