Veteran actor, director, and producer Robert Redford has died at the age of 89.

According to reports from the Daily Mail and The New York Times, the Oscar-winning star passed away peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday at his home near Provo, Utah. His publicist has confirmed the news.

Redford was a towering figure in Hollywood, known for his charisma, versatility, and influence both on and off the screen. He rose to fame with iconic roles in films such as Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, The Sting, and All the President’s Men. His career began on Broadway, where he earned acclaim in the 1963 production of Barefoot in the Park, later reprising the role for the big screen.

In 1980, Redford made a successful transition to directing with Ordinary People, a critically acclaimed film that earned him the Academy Award for Best Director. Beyond his work in front of and behind the camera, he was also a passionate advocate for independent cinema. He founded the Sundance Institute and was instrumental in establishing the Sundance Film Festival, now one of the most respected platforms for indie filmmakers worldwide.

Throughout his decades-long career, Redford earned numerous honors, including a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Academy and the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2016.
