In a significant victory against transnational organized crime, the Nigeria Police Force has successfully repatriated a high-profile Chinese fugitive, Dai Qisheng, to China.

The development was announced by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, who revealed that the operation was carried out in collaboration with INTERPOL’s National Central Bureau (NCB) in Abuja, alongside their counterparts in Beijing and the Chinese Embassy in Nigeria. The coordinated effort marks a major milestone in international law enforcement cooperation.

Dai Qisheng, described as a notorious gang leader, had been on the run since 2024 after Chinese authorities issued an arrest warrant for his role in a series of violent organized crimes in Guizhou Province. He fled to Nigeria in a bid to evade justice but was tracked and apprehended by INTERPOL operatives in Abuja on August 8, 2025.

Following his arrest, Dai was repatriated to Beijing on August 15, 2025, under a police-to-police cooperation framework facilitated by INTERPOL.

Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olukayode Adeolu Egbetokun, praised the successful operation, describing it as evidence of Nigeria’s commitment to global justice and security.

“This operation sends a clear message to criminals around the world — Nigeria will not be a safe haven for fugitives,” the IGP stated.

He also emphasized the importance of intelligence-sharing, cross-border collaboration, and strong global partnerships in the fight against international crime syndicates.

DCP Adejobi added that the case underscores Nigeria’s dedication to upholding the rule of law and playing an active role in global security through effective law enforcement alliances.
