The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has officially mandated that all mobile phones must be completely switched off during aircraft take-off and landing.
This directive was confirmed by Michael Achimugu, Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at the NCAA, who stated that regulations surrounding the use of phones and other electronic devices on Nigerian flights have now been standardized across the board.
The announcement follows a recent incident involving a disagreement between an Ibom Air passenger, Comfort Emmanson, and a flight attendant during a trip from Uyo to Lagos. The clash reportedly stemmed from Emmanson’s refusal to switch off her phone when instructed, highlighting growing concerns over passenger compliance with safety protocols.
The NCAA’s updated rule aims to eliminate any ambiguity and reinforce safety procedures on board all commercial flights within Nigeria.
