Human rights activist and lawyer Deji Adeyanju has called for mandatory DNA testing before the issuance of birth certificates for newborns in Nigeria — a move he believes will help curb the growing issue of paternity fraud.
Taking to social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Adeyanju appealed to the National Assembly to consider introducing legislation that would make DNA verification a legal requirement before any birth certificate is granted.
The proposal has sparked conversations online, with many Nigerians expressing support. Several users agreed with Adeyanju’s stance, citing concerns over the rising number of paternity disputes across the country.
While the idea is already generating public interest, it remains to be seen whether lawmakers will take up the call for action.
