The Anambra State Police Command has made significant progress in combating child trafficking and sexual offences within the state.
According to a statement from the command’s spokesperson, Ikenga Tochukwu, an intelligence-led investigation was launched following a case of conspiracy, child stealing, and trafficking transferred from Okpoko Police Station to the State Criminal Investigation Department’s Gender Unit. Acting on this, operatives successfully rescued a 6-year-old child from an alleged foster parent in Ondo State.
The rescued child has now been reunited with his biological mother, and all suspects involved have been charged before the Children, Sexual, and Gender-Based Violence Court for prosecution.
In a separate incident, on August 13, 2025, officers from the Rapid Response Squad in Awkuzu responded to a distress call from Ebenebe Community concerning the defilement of an 11-year-old girl. They promptly arrested 18-year-old Uchenna Nweke.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly forced his way into the bathroom where the victim was bathing and committed the offence. Medical reports have confirmed the suspect’s involvement.
The case is scheduled to be charged in court on Wednesday, August 20, 2025.
