British Airways on Friday, August 15, 2025, denied boarding to 58 passengers scheduled to travel on its Abuja–London flight due to a faulty aircraft door.

The Director of Public Relations and Consumer Protection at the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Michael Achimugu, confirmed the incident in a post on his X handle. He explained that the airline had to keep certain seats unoccupied for safety reasons.

“British Airways discovered that some seats on the aircraft were unusable. As a result, 58 passengers were denied boarding this morning. Hotel accommodation was provided for those affected, with 28 passengers opting to return home while 30 accepted the offer. Affected passengers are entitled to file for compensation. Arrangements are being made to airlift them tomorrow morning,” Achimugu wrote.

He advised passengers facing similar situations to first seek assistance from NCAA Consumer Protection Officers at the terminal to ensure their rights to care are upheld in cases of airline delays.

Providing an update, Achimugu clarified: “The actual problem was a faulty door, so the seats around it had to be kept unoccupied for safety reasons.”
