Jonathan as the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) best choice to challenge President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general election.
Speaking on Channels Television on Friday, August 8, Lamido urged the party to make deliberate efforts to bring Jonathan back, insisting that no current PDP member from the South matches his experience.
He described Jonathan as a leader who has previously guided the country, understands governance, and works well with others.
“Jonathan is most welcome, competent, and very qualified. With all respect to other members, I do not see a better alternative in the PDP if the presidency is zoned to the South. Who else has his experience, willingness to listen, and ability to work in partnership?” Lamido said.
The former governor also called for the expulsion of Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike, former Benue State governor Samuel Ortom, former Abia State governor Okezie Ikpeazu, and other PDP members who, according to him, worked against the party during the 2023 elections.
“All those erring members — the Wikes, the Ortoms, the Ikpeazus, and others — who openly campaigned against the PDP and say they will work for the APC in 2027 should be sacked from the party,” he stated.
Lamido’s comments come amid renewed efforts within the PDP to court Jonathan ahead of the next presidential race.
