A lawyer representing music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs has confirmed that his legal team has reached out to the White House to request a presidential pardon, following the rapper’s recent conviction and denial of bail.
Diddy, who was found guilty in July on two counts of transportation for prostitution, was denied bail on Tuesday and is now awaiting sentencing in October. He faces up to 20 years in prison. However, he was acquitted of more serious charges, including racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking, which could have carried a life sentence.
Nicole Westmoreland, a member of Diddy’s high-profile defense team, revealed in an exclusive interview with CNN that contact had been made with the Trump administration regarding the possibility of a pardon.
“It’s my understanding that we’ve reached out and had conversations in reference to a pardon,” she stated.
Former President Donald Trump also acknowledged the outreach during a recent interview with Newsmax. While he confirmed that discussions had taken place, he expressed skepticism about granting clemency.
“They have talked to me about Sean,” Trump said. “I was friendly with him. We got along. He seemed like a nice guy—but when I ran for office, he was very hostile.”
When asked directly if a pardon for Combs was likely, Trump replied: “I would say so,” implying a pardon is unlikely.
With sentencing just months away, Diddy’s legal team appears to be exploring all options—but a pardon from Trump may not be one of them.
