The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has confiscated banned, expired, and unregistered products worth over ₦1.5 billion during a large-scale enforcement operation at the cosmetics section of the Lagos Trade Fair market.

The raid, led by Dr. Martins Iluyomade, NAFDAC’s Director of Investigation & Enforcement, revealed multiple warehouses stocked with unapproved cosmetics, food items, and other NAFDAC-regulated products — many without proper registration numbers or expiration dates.

During the operation, officials evacuated more than one trailer-load of illegal goods. Another trailer filled with cosmetics was also intercepted, although the driver managed to flee the scene. Fortunately, the vehicle was secured by NAFDAC personnel to prevent further distribution.

This major bust is part of NAFDAC’s ongoing nationwide crackdown on counterfeit and unsafe consumer products. The agency is intensifying efforts to clean up markets across Nigeria and safeguard public health.

NAFDAC has urged consumers to remain cautious, avoid unregulated products, and report any suspicious items or vendors to the nearest NAFDAC office.

“This is one of the largest seizures we’ve made in recent months,” a NAFDAC spokesperson stated. “It demonstrates our continued commitment to ensuring that only safe, approved products reach Nigerian consumers.”
