In a recent police operation aimed at reducing crime in the Asokwa Municipality of Ghana’s Ashanti Region, five Nigerian women suspected of engaging in sex work were arrested.
The Asokwa District Police conducted an unannounced swoop across several known ghettos to apprehend suspected criminals before they could carry out any illegal activities. During the operation, a total of twelve individuals—seven men and five women—were detained at various locations.
The five women later admitted to police that they were involved in prostitution as a means of survival. They identified themselves as Empress David (22), Sonia Isaac (24), Loveth Michael (18), Success Moses (21), and Victor Alice (23).
According to a police statement:
“On July 30, 2025, between 6:00 pm and 8:00 pm, the Asokwa District Command conducted a swoop exercise within Asokwa Municipality. During the exercise, 12 people were arrested.”
“Five of the suspects are Nigerian females who confessed to engaging in prostitution at Sokoban Wood Village.”
“All suspects are currently in police custody.”
The seven men arrested include Jacob Amaliba (30), Usif Awuro (39), Adu Kofi (22), Kwame Atobiga (39), Isaac Boamah (27), Emmanuel Boakye (29), and Pekazine Puakan (28). The police statement revealed these men were detained from various ghettos believed to be centers of illegal drug activity, specifically ‘Wee’ Base at Asago.
Authorities conducted searches on all suspects but reportedly found no incriminating items. Investigations are ongoing as the suspects undergo screening and profiling.
