Super Falcons captain Rasheedat Ajibade has opened up about her remarkable rise from humble beginnings to becoming one of Africa’s top football stars.
Speaking at Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries (MFM) Prayer City in Ogun State on Saturday, August 2, Ajibade shared how she once sold Olive oil and local drinks like Kunu and Zobo during church programmes long before the world knew her name.
Today, she’s not only a key forward for Atlético Madrid, but also the captain of Nigeria’s national women’s team. Under her leadership, the Super Falcons clinched their record 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title in Morocco.
Ajibade credited her success to a mix of hard work, discipline, and strong faith.
“Whenever things are tough at my club or with the national team, I pray. I do my part through hard work, but I never forget to seek God’s help,” she told the crowd.
Looking back on her early struggles, she said:
“I was one of those young girls hawking Olive oil, Kunu, and Zobo during deliverance programmes. But today, I give all the glory to God. Please, don’t give up—keep praying, keep fasting, keep working, and keep believing.”
Ajibade’s impact at WAFCON was undeniable. While she scored only once, her overall presence on the field earned her the Player of the Tournament title and three Woman of the Match awards—highlighting her influence and leadership throughout the competition.
Her story is a powerful reminder that where you start doesn’t define where you can go. From the church grounds of Ogun State to the stadiums of Europe and Africa, Ajibade is living proof that faith, grit, and purpose can change any story.
