Nollywood has been thrown into mourning following the passing of actress Omotola Odunsi, fondly known as Motola the Actor.
As of the time of filing this report, the cause of her death has not been made public.
Her colleague, Akinola ‘Segbowe’ Akano, confirmed the tragic news in a heartfelt Instagram post on Thursday, July 31, 2025. He shared screenshots of their final conversation alongside photos of the late actress, revealing that she had recently mentioned feeling better.
“Motola! Strange but I tried checking on you at the wee hours of that morning. You said you were FINE & BACK! This is a rude shock, Omotola! Journey well, sister. God be with your family,” he wrote.
Veteran actor Odunlade Adekola, under whose mentorship Odunsi trained, also confirmed the sad news, posting briefly on social media:
“Jesus Christ. RIP Omotola.”
Before fully embracing her acting career in 2019, Omotola worked as a credit officer at a state‑owned bank. Since then, she became a prominent figure in the Yoruba film industry.
She featured in several notable productions including Ajanaku, Darkness, Ogo Oluwa, Dagogo, Ariran, Doctor Adunni, Folagbade, President Kuti, Amonata, Officer Adaeze, Ifedayo, Ayanmo Ire, and Lisabi: The Uprising.
Her passing marks a significant loss to the Nigerian film industry.
