Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has debunked rumours of his alleged plan to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), reaffirming his loyalty and leadership within the party in the state.
In a statement issued on Saturday, July 5, Adeleke described the speculation as baseless and urged the public to disregard it.
“I want to assure the good people of Osun State and Nigerians at large that I remain a loyal member and the leader of the Peoples Democratic Party in Osun State,” he said.
The governor noted that he had received numerous calls in recent hours regarding the alleged defection and reiterated his administration’s commitment to its development agenda.
“My focus remains on delivering good governance and fulfilling our five-point agenda for the people of Osun. Please disregard the fake news and continue to support our mission for a better Osun State,” he added.
The clarification comes amid mounting speculation that Adeleke may be considering aligning with a coalition led by the African Democratic Congress (ADC), which has recently attracted several opposition figures. There have also been persistent rumours linking him to the All Progressives Congress (APC), despite his repeated denials.
Adeleke, whose current term expires in 2026, is expected to seek re-election on August 8 of that year, during Nigeria’s off-cycle governorship elections. With internal tensions and defections affecting the PDP nationally, political observers have speculated that he may be weighing alternative platforms ahead of the polls.
