Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike has made it clear that he does not owe anyone an explanation regarding the recent peace deal reached with Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara. Speaking during a media session in Abuja on Thursday, Wike emphasized that the key issue is that peace has finally returned to Rivers State.
The reconciliation between Wike and Fubara comes after months of intense political tension that threatened to destabilize the oil-rich state. Their rift had sparked a major political crisis, attracting national attention and prompting interventions from prominent leaders, including President Bola Tinubu, who reportedly helped broker the truce.
Wike, a former governor of Rivers State and a leading figure in the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), accused unnamed individuals of exploiting the conflict for personal gain. “Those who were benefiting from the crisis are not happy that we have made peace,” he said. “They were busy collecting money here and there, fueling problems just to line their pockets.”
He insisted that he owes no one details of the reconciliation, stating that the most important outcome is the restoration of stability in Rivers State.
While speculation continues about the political concessions that may have been part of the truce, Wike appeared unconcerned by such rumors, stressing that the people of Rivers State stand to benefit the most from the renewed peace.
