A man identified as Abuchi Joseph has allegedly killed his 65-year-old mother, Josephine Azegba, during a heated dispute over a piece of family land in Umuogbo Ulo community, Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area of Enugu State.
According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, the tragic incident occurred at about 2:20 p.m. on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, and was reported by the deceased’s daughter, Charity Azegba.
It was gathered that Abuchi struck his mother on the head with an iron hoe during an argument related to the sale of family land. The blow caused severe injuries that led to her immediate death.
Following the attack, the suspect fled the scene, prompting the police to launch a manhunt.
However, he was later apprehended and beaten by vigilant youths after he allegedly snatched a motorcycle from a woman in the neighbouring Okata community.
The victim’s body has been deposited at the Ogrute General Hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy, while investigations into the incident are ongoing.
