Media personality and former BBNaija housemate, Tacha, has slammed online critics over the viral controversy involving Nigerian influencer Asherkine and a female fan known as Becky.

The drama began after Becky claimed she had never been in a relationship — a statement believed to have been made to secure a date with Asherkine. Her claim was later challenged by a man who alleged he had dated her for two years. He released a purported chat between them, claiming Becky lied about traveling to see her mother when she had actually gone to meet Asherkine.

However, Becky has firmly denied knowing the man, insisting that the name being used to push the story doesn’t match her identity. “I do not know this boy,” she said. “I have never had a boyfriend before, and nothing will change my statement.”

Reacting in a video shared on Instagram, Tacha criticized the backlash, comparing online trolls to the “wicked aunties and uncles” African parents used to warn their children about. “They’re no longer in the village — they’re all on Twitter Nigeria,” she said.

Tacha accused critics of twisting a harmless moment into a scandal, fabricating fake chats and narratives to shame the woman in the video. She argued that the outrage stemmed from deep-rooted misogyny.

“In this country, the average Nigerian man sees women as gold diggers,” she said, claiming this perception fueled the viral accusations. She urged Becky to seek legal redress and called on the public to stop using social media as a tool to tear others down out of boredom or bitterness.

“The wicked people our parents warned us about are now online — Twitter influencers, bloggers — all of them,” Tacha added.
