Bayern Munich are reportedly preparing to hijack Chelsea’s pursuit of Borussia Dortmund winger Jamie Bynoe-Gittens, casting serious doubt over what had appeared to be a near-complete transfer for the England Under-21 star.
Earlier this month, Chelsea were believed to have agreed a seven-year contract with Bynoe-Gittens, following his impressive breakout season in which he scored eight Bundesliga goals. The Blues — fresh off a fourth-place Premier League finish and Europa Conference League triumph — have been aggressively reinforcing their squad ahead of a return to Champions League football, with Bynoe-Gittens earmarked as a central piece of their long-term attacking plans.
However, according to Kicker, Bayern Munich have now entered the race for the 19-year-old after missing out on Florian Wirtz, who is set to join Liverpool. The German champions were also monitoring Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams, but with the Spaniard reportedly closing in on a move to Barcelona, Bayern have turned their attention to Bynoe-Gittens.
A regular fixture at Dortmund, Bynoe-Gittens has attracted interest from several top European clubs due to his rapid development and versatility. Bayern, renowned for poaching top talent from Bundesliga rivals, are said to view him as a long-term solution for their wide positions.
Chelsea’s urgency in the transfer market has intensified in recent weeks. The club opted against re-signing Jadon Sancho, while Mykhailo Mudryk now faces a doping charge that could sideline him indefinitely. With limited options on the wing, manager Enzo Maresca would see the loss of Bynoe-Gittens as a major setback.
Despite completing a £30 million deal for forward Liam Delap, Chelsea remain in the hunt for more firepower up front. Bynoe-Gittens is reportedly still open to a move to Stamford Bridge — provided the Blues meet his £60 million valuation.
Whether Chelsea can fend off Bayern’s late bid remains to be seen, but given the Bavarian club’s track record of snapping up domestic stars, the West Londoners may be in for a difficult battle.
