Ghanaian midfielder Thomas Partey is reportedly set to leave Arsenal this summer, with negotiations over a new contract having reached a “complete standstill,” according to ESPN.
Partey’s current deal expires at the end of June, and he is not expected to reach an agreement with the club.
The 31-year-old joined Arsenal from Atlético Madrid for £45 million on deadline day in October 2020. Since then, he has made 167 appearances for the Gunners, scoring nine goals. Despite missing large parts of the 2023–24 season due to injury, Partey returned to play a key role under Mikel Arteta as Arsenal reached the Champions League semi-finals.
His time in North London has yielded only one trophy — the Community Shield.
Arsenal are reportedly closing in on a £51 million move for Real Sociedad midfielder Martín Zubimendi, who is being viewed as a potential replacement for Partey.
Speaking on his future, Partey acknowledged that family considerations will play a major role in his decision.
“I think the first thing is where you’re happy and where you feel at home. At the end of the day, you’ve been in football, you’ve been in different teams.
Then it’s about your next objective — what do you want to achieve?
You still have to consider all this, and at the end of the day, we all have families that need support — that’s on our minds. We’re not getting younger. There are a lot of things to think about now, especially with family and where you want them to be happy. When you’re young, you just play anywhere.
I’m an Arsenal fan — I can’t decide anything; I just have to leave it to my agent and the club. Me, I just want to enjoy football.”
