The Defence Headquarters has announced that troops of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) have apprehended a Chinese national who claimed to be a miner, along with several individuals suspected of supplying logistics to terrorists and collaborating with insurgents. The arrests were made during recent military operations in Borno and Yobe States.
Major General Markus Kangye, Director of Defence Media Operations, disclosed this during a press briefing on Friday, June 13, in Abuja. He stated that the Chinese national was arrested in coordinated operations in Kukawa and Ngala Local Government Areas of Borno State. Investigations are currently underway to ascertain the suspect’s motives and potential involvement in illegal activities.
“The Chinese national has been detained and is undergoing interrogation,” Kangye said. “Once the interrogation is complete, we will provide the public with full details, including the reasons for his presence in the area, how he was arrested, whether he acted alone, or if he had accomplices. These details will be made available after a thorough investigation.”
Kangye further revealed that between June 6 and 11, several Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) members—comprising men, women, and children—surrendered to troops due to sustained military pressure.
He added that the armed forces have intensified operations across all theatres in response to various security threats confronting the nation.
Reaffirming the military’s commitment to national security, Kangye emphasized that the armed forces remain resolute in protecting lives and property, upholding the rule of law, and ensuring a safe environment for all Nigerians.
“We remain dedicated to transparency and will keep the public informed of our ongoing efforts to ensure the stability and security of our great nation,” he concluded.
