The Sole Administrator of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Edison Ehie Ibas, has confirmed that the salaries and emoluments of Governor Siminalayi Fubara and state lawmakers are fully captured in the state’s ₦1.48 trillion 2024 budget.
Ibas made the clarification during a recent media briefing, addressing growing public curiosity about the financial provisions for political officeholders amid ongoing political tensions in the state.
According to him, the inclusion of these emoluments was in line with standard budgetary practice and transparency. He emphasized that despite the political drama involving rival factions in the Assembly, the approved budget accounts for the remuneration of all relevant state officials, including the governor and legislators.
The ₦1.48 trillion budget, which was signed into law by Governor Fubara earlier this year, is aimed at driving infrastructure, education, healthcare, and economic development in the oil-rich state.
Ibas’s statement comes amidst heightened scrutiny over the legitimacy and structure of the current legislative arm, following recent defections and leadership disputes within the Rivers State Assembly.
