The Sokoto State Police have confirmed that six people lost their lives following a bomb explosion in Gwabro village, located in Tangaza Local Government Area, on Sunday, June 8.

Police spokesperson Ahmad Rufai confirmed the death toll but did not provide further details regarding the nature or source of the explosion, which occurred during the Eid-el-Kabir festivities.

An eyewitness, identified as Hashimu, said the incident took place in the afternoon. According to him, many people were traveling between villages to visit family and friends, a common tradition during the Eid celebrations. The explosion reportedly happened during one of these visits.

Garzali Raka, an aide to the Chairman of Tangaza Local Government, confirmed that the victims had been buried in accordance with Islamic rites.

Local sources suspect the involvement of the Lakurawa terrorist group, which has been a persistent threat in both Tangaza and Gudu Local Government Areas. The group is believed to have planted the explosive device.

Residents of the affected communities have called on the government to take decisive action against the Lakurawa terrorists, who have continuously disrupted peace and communal harmony in the region.
