The recent visit of Governor Ademola Adeleke and members of the Adeleke family to President Bola Tinubu has ignited political speculation in Osun State. The meeting, which included the governor, his elder brother Dr. Deji Adeleke, and renowned musician David Adeleke (Davido), was widely shared on social media on Tuesday, prompting rumors that the Adeleke political dynasty might be considering a defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2026 gubernatorial elections.
In response, the Osun State chapter of the APC, through former House of Assembly Speaker Timothy Owoeye, firmly dismissed these claims. Owoeye emphasized that the APC’s gubernatorial ticket is not for sale and clarified that Governor Adeleke is not a member of the party.
“I want to be clear: the APC ticket is not for sale. As of today, we do not recognize Adeleke as part of the APC,” Owoeye stated. “The APC in Osun is the party to beat.”
He further suggested that the Adeleke family’s engagement with the APC is motivated by political insecurity within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). “With their tenure ending come August 8, 2026, we are committed to driving the PDP out of Osun’s government. There is no room for the PDP or Adeleke within the APC,” he added.
However, Governor Adeleke’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, dismissed the speculation as baseless. He described the visit as a routine courtesy call and reaffirmed the governor’s loyalty to the PDP.
“The media speculation about an imminent defection is fake news. Governor Adeleke remains a committed member and leader of the PDP in Osun State,” the statement read. “The visit to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was purely a courtesy call, and any suggestion of a defection agenda is unfounded.”
