The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Shehu Mohammed, has ordered the immediate recall of an entire patrol team and initiated an investigation following recent media allegations of bribery involving some operatives of the Corps.

The directive comes in response to a media report that accused certain patrol officers of engaging in corrupt practices.

This development also follows the recent move by the House of Representatives, which, two weeks ago, established an ad hoc committee to probe operational challenges surrounding driver’s licence issuance, revenue generation, and utilization over the past three years.

In a statement issued on Thursday by the Corps Public Education Officer, Assistant Corps Marshal Olusegun Ogungbemide, the FRSC reaffirmed its commitment to discipline and reiterated its zero-tolerance policy towards corruption and misconduct.

Ogungbemide emphasized that any personnel found culpable would face severe consequences, including possible dismissal and criminal prosecution.

“If found guilty, the operatives will face severe disciplinary action, including dismissal and prosecution where necessary,” he said.

He further explained that the FRSC leadership has consistently demonstrated a proactive stance against corruption through a robust anti-corruption policy, dynamic operational strategies, and continuous monitoring and evaluation.

“Over the years, the leadership of the Corps has maintained a zero-tolerance approach to corruption. This is enforced through detailed policy implementation, effective operational activities, and rigorous internal oversight,” Ogungbemide noted.

He added, “Any operative arrested for criminal offences such as extortion will not only face internal disciplinary procedures but will also be handed over to the police for prosecution where applicable.”

According to him, this zero-tolerance stance has led to the continuous reorganization of the Corps’ internal surveillance systems and the dismissal or prosecution of operatives found guilty of corrupt practices.
