Liverpool’s club-record bid of £110 million for Bayer Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz has reportedly been turned down.
The 22-year-old German international is the Reds’ primary transfer target this summer, as manager Arne Slot aims to strengthen the squad following their Premier League title win in his first season at Anfield.
In recent weeks, Liverpool has emerged as the frontrunner for Wirtz, who previously rejected a move to Bayern Munich. He is said to have already agreed personal terms with the Reds.
Liverpool demonstrated their intent by submitting a bid reportedly worth €130 million (£110 million). However, according to Bild, Bayer Leverkusen has rejected the offer, holding out for a fee closer to €150 million (£127 million) for their prized asset.
The report also suggests that the gap could be bridged with performance-related bonuses, and the deal is still expected to go through, with Leverkusen anticipating Wirtz’s departure. Additionally, Liverpool might include a player in the negotiations to sweeten the deal, with Jarrell Quansah and Harvey Elliott mentioned as potential makeweights.
