A Lagos resident, Olawale Ogunbadejo, has been remanded in Kirikiri Correctional Centre for illegally dumping waste on a public road. The order was issued by a Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, pending his trial scheduled for June 26.
The development was confirmed by Wale Ajetunmobi, Senior Special Assistant on Print Media to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who shared the update on social media platform X (formerly Twitter).
“Mr. Olawale Ogunbadejo, caught disposing of refuse on the road, has just been remanded in Kirikiri Prison by the Magistrate’s Court till June 26,” Ajetunmobi posted.
Ogunbadejo, who lives at No. 25 Ajiboye Street in the Alapere area of Ketu, was caught on camera dumping waste along the Alapere Link Bridge on Wednesday, May 21. The footage quickly went viral, sparking public outrage.
Earlier that day, the Lagos State Government issued a call for information to help track him down, even offering a reward for tips that would lead to his arrest.
Following the public alert, Ogunbadejo was apprehended in a coordinated operation by officials of the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) and the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC), popularly known as KAI.
The incident underscores the state government’s renewed commitment to tackling environmental offenses and maintaining cleanliness across Lagos.
