The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has addressed widespread rumours of a feud between him and the suspended Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, insisting there is no personal conflict between them.

Speaking in an interview with BBC Pidgin, Wike dismissed the notion of a direct rift, saying, “That one is not a battle. He (Fubara) is my boy, he is my son. Why will I fight with him?”

The former Rivers State governor clarified that his political battle isn’t with Fubara himself, but with individuals he claims are influencing the governor for their own selfish gains.

“I’m only fighting against people who want to steal what they did not work for,” Wike explained. “When you don’t defeat them, they’ll think they are in charge. Defeat them to the final stage. Now, they’re ashamed because they are being defeated. They are the ones pushing Fubara.”

Wike also revealed during a separate media chat in Abuja that Fubara had reached out in an effort to restore peace, responding to repeated appeals from President Bola Tinubu for reconciliation.

“The President has called for peace several times,” Wike said. “I can’t be the one to reject peace. Fubara came with two APC governors and an elder. He said he wants peace – and that’s fine. I also want peace.”

These remarks come as political tensions in Rivers State remain high, following the governor’s suspension and the deepening power struggle among key figures in the state’s leadership.
