The Nasarawa State Police Command has announced the arrest of a notorious kidnapper who had long been on its wanted list for multiple criminal offenses.
In a statement issued to journalists in Lafia on Sunday, May 18, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Ramhan Nansel, revealed that the suspect was apprehended following an intensive manhunt.
According to the statement, the suspect, identified as Abashed Gizo, was arrested at the popular Shinge Cattle Market in Lafia during an intelligence-led operation conducted by operatives of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID).
“The suspect had been on the Command’s wanted list for an extended period due to his involvement in various criminal activities, including kidnapping and cattle rustling,” the statement read.
SP Nansel further disclosed that during interrogation, Gizo confessed to the crimes and led officers to his hideout in Ruwan Baka village, located in Doma Local Government Area. There, police recovered an AK-49 rifle (Breach No. 453144) and a magazine in his possession.
The Command noted that this arrest is connected to the recent apprehension of Fatima Salisu, who was intercepted while transporting a cache of ammunition from Doma to Katsina State, allegedly meant for criminal elements.
Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, reaffirmed the Command’s dedication to combating crime and ensuring the safety and security of all residents across Nasarawa State.
The Police also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activity, emphasizing their ongoing efforts to create safer communities.
