Several underage candidates who sat for the 2025 JAMB examination have taken to social media to express frustration after their results were withheld due to age restrictions.
According to JAMB’s guidelines, candidates must be at least 15 years old and turn 16 by September — the typical month when universities begin admitting new students. Many of these students, who fall just days short of that requirement, purchased forms, sat for the exams, and waited anxiously for their results — only to be met with silence.
One heartbroken candidate revealed she will be turning 16 in October, just 12 days after JAMB’s set deadline. “Imagine waiting another whole year just because you were born 12 days late,” she lamented online. Her story echoes the frustration of many others caught in the same situation.
Parents are also speaking out. A mother of one of the affected students, also turning 16 in October, shared her dismay on social media, questioning why JAMB would allow them to register if their results would ultimately be withheld.
The situation has sparked conversations about the rigidity of the age policy and the need for clearer communication from examination bodies. As more voices join the conversation online, many are calling for JAMB to reconsider its stance — or at the very least, provide better guidance during registration to prevent situations like this.
