Kim Kardashian has taken the stand in the trial of the suspects accused in the 2016 robbery in which she was bound and held at gunpoint in her Paris hotel room.

Testifying on Tuesday, May 13, Kardashian, 44, recounted the harrowing events of the night, including her fear for her life. When asked if she believed she was going to die during the robbery, she replied, “I absolutely did think I was gonna die.”

Kardashian described being alone in her room, wearing only a robe, which she said was pulled open by one of the assailants, leaving her exposed. “I was certain that was the moment he was going to assault me. I said a prayer to mentally prepare myself,” she testified. Ultimately, her legs were tied together instead.

Throughout the ordeal, Kardashian said she pleaded with the robbers, repeatedly telling them, “I have babies, and I need to get home to my babies.” At one point, she said she believed one of the men told her to “shut up,” according to NBC News.

Despite realizing the intruders were primarily after her jewelry, Kardashian said she continued to fear for her life. She was especially worried that her mother, Kris Jenner, and sister, Kourtney Kardashian, might find her dead. “At that point, I was sure that’s when they were going to shoot me,” she said, according to the BBC. “So I said a prayer for my family—my mom, my sister, and my best friend.”

She also testified that she knew Kourtney, 46, would be returning to the hotel soon, and feared she would walk in and find her lifeless body. “I believed I would be shot dead on the bed, and she would see that and have that memory forever.”

Kardashian said the robbers eventually dropped her on the bathroom floor before fleeing. After waiting several minutes to ensure they were gone, she managed to free her hands and hop to her stylist’s room for help.

She further testified that prior to the incident, she felt safe in Paris. Now, she travels with a security team of four to six bodyguards, even while at her home in California.

Ten individuals are currently on trial in connection with the robbery, which was one of the most high-profile celebrity heists in recent memory. French media have dubbed the group the “Grandpa Robbers” due to their ages and previous criminal records.
