Real Madrid have reportedly reached a full agreement with former player Xabi Alonso to become the club’s next head coach, according to renowned transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

Currently managing Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen, Alonso has agreed to a three-year contract with Los Blancos, which will run until 2028. His appointment signals the end of Carlo Ancelotti’s tenure and ushers in a new era for the Spanish giants under the leadership of the former midfield maestro.

Romano confirmed the news on Monday via X (formerly Twitter), stating: “Xabi Alonso to Real Madrid, here we go! Story confirmed and deal sealed for Xabi as new manager until 2028.”

The agreement reportedly includes a fully assembled backroom staff, with Real Madrid planning for Alonso to officially begin his role at the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup—where the club is expected to participate as Champions League winners.
