Former Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel has expressed his desire to see Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen make a move to the English Premier League.
Reacting to reports linking Osimhen with a potential transfer to Manchester United, Mikel dismissed the Red Devils as a suitable destination if they fail to qualify for European competition.
“If that’s the case, then he doesn’t go to United,” Mikel said during a chat on beIN SPORTS’ Soccer Sunday Live, when asked whether a club not competing in Europe next season could still attract the prolific striker.
Mikel also revealed that Osimhen harbors an interest in playing for Chelsea, although he was careful not to make any definitive predictions about the forward’s next move.
“I hope somewhere in the Premier League,” Mikel stated. When pressed further, he added, “I don’t know; we wait and see.”
The former Nigerian international also hinted that negotiations between Chelsea and Osimhen had previously made significant progress.
“I know where we (Chelsea) stopped in terms of the contract, I know where we are,” he said. “It’s an easy fix. We did all the hard work last summer. It’s so easy to just pick it up.”
Osimhen, currently on loan at Turkish champions Galatasaray from Napoli, has been in sensational form this season, scoring 21 goals and providing four assists in just 25 league appearances.
