In a significant political development, Delta State Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori has officially left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to join the All Progressives Congress (APC), signaling a major shift in the state’s political dynamics.

According to Arise TV, the defection was confirmed Wednesday evening after a closed-door meeting at the Government House in Asaba. Speaking by phone, the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, said the move came after “extensive consultations with political stakeholders and in the interest of Delta’s long-term development.”

Oborevwori, who was elected governor under the PDP banner in 2023, was warmly received by top APC officials—an endorsement that marks a significant gain for the ruling party. Political commentators have described the switch as a calculated move with an eye on the 2027 general elections, potentially reshaping the political landscape of the South-South region.
