The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has withdrawn all corps members from Mbaa community in Kwande Local Government Area of Benue State following deadly attacks by suspected armed herders. The attacks have reportedly claimed over 20 lives, including 16 farmers whose bodies were recovered from River Katsina-Ala.

In a statement released on Thursday, February 20, Yahuza Adamu, the Assistant Director of Information and Public Relations for NYSC in Benue, confirmed the withdrawal, citing security concerns. He reassured parents and guardians that the NYSC remains committed to the safety of its members and is working closely with security agencies to ensure their protection.

“Since the onset of these recurring attacks in Mbaa community, which shares a border with the Republic of Cameroon, the NYSC has withdrawn all corps members from the area and has not posted any there to date,” the statement read.

Adamu also confirmed that a headcount of corps members serving in Kwande LGA had been conducted, with all members accounted for and safe. He clarified that corps members stationed in Jato Acka Turan, a location far from the affected area, are not under any security threat.

“As a matter of policy, the NYSC takes proactive measures to ensure the safety and well-being of its corps members at all times,” he emphasized.

The NYSC urged parents and guardians to rely on official communication channels for updates, reaffirming its commitment to corps members’ security and continued collaboration with law enforcement agencies.
