Jude Bellingham Receives Two-Game Ban After Red Card Appeal Fails

Jude Bellingham has been handed a two-match suspension after the Spanish football federation’s disciplinary committee upheld his red card from Real Madrid’s 1-1 draw against Osasuna on February 15. The England international will now miss LaLiga fixtures against Girona and Real Betis, though Madrid has announced plans to appeal the decision.

Bellingham was sent off in the 39th minute at El Sadar while Madrid was leading 1-0. Referee José Luis Munuera Montero claimed in his match report that the midfielder insulted him, allegedly saying, “f–k you.” However, both Bellingham and Madrid contested this version of events, arguing that video footage instead captured him saying, “I’m talking to you with respect,” before appearing to say, “f–k off.”

Following the match, Bellingham voiced his frustration, insisting that the referee had made a mistake.

“It’s clear there was a miscommunication. I remember the incident well, and I’ve also seen the video. The footage doesn’t match the referee’s report… I hope it will be reviewed,” Bellingham said.

Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti also defended the midfielder, suggesting that the referee misunderstood him.

“I think [the referee] didn’t understand English well. Bellingham said ‘f–k off,’ not ‘f–k you.’ That’s a mistake… I don’t think it’s offensive. Bellingham didn’t do anything to deserve a red card today,” Ancelotti argued.

Additionally, the federation has confirmed that it is reviewing media reports alleging that a company linked to Munuera Montero has business relationships with various football bodies and clubs. The referee has denied any wrongdoing.
