Six Federal University Lokoja Students, Driver Killed in Tragic Road Accident
A fatal accident claimed the lives of six students from the Federal University Lokoja (FUL) and their shuttle bus driver after an articulated vehicle crashed into their bus on Monday, February 17.
According to eyewitness reports, the accident occurred around 2:30 PM. The truck, loaded with wood and jerry cans of palm oil, was traveling towards the Abuja axis when the driver lost control and collided with the university’s shuttle bus, which was already filled with students preparing to head to school.
“The shuttle bus was completely crushed by the articulated vehicle,” a witness recounted.
Emergency responders from the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) arrived at the scene to rescue victims trapped beneath the wreckage.
Kogi State Sector Commandant of the FRSC, Samuel Oyedeji, who led the rescue operation, stated that while the full casualty count was yet to be confirmed, several lives were lost in the tragic incident.
The Kogi State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) has confirmed that the bodies of the deceased have been deposited in the morgue for identification, while the injured victims have been taken to the Federal Teaching Hospital, Lokoja, and the Kogi State Specialist Hospital for treatment.
Meanwhile, students of the Federal University Lokoja (FUL) have taken to social media to mourn their lost colleagues, sharing heartfelt tributes and photos identifying some of the victims.
